Every bodywork session is customized to the client's individual needs. Below is some information about some of the modalities and techniques that may be incorporated into your session.

Myofascial Release is a gentle technique that targets the body's fascia- the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, organs and joints. Your fascia system is your body's largest sensory organ and plays a critical role in healthy nerve function, joint range of motion, and your body's unique postural and protection patterns. This technique is typically applied through direct skin contact, though adjustments can be made to work through clothing.

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a very gentle and intuitive manual approach that focuses on assessing and fascilitating healthy function of the craniosacral system- the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using light touch, the therapist works to release restrictions in this system to support the body's natural ability to self correct. CST is incredible for headaches, TMJ dysfunction, nervous system dysregulation, lumbar and cervical pain, trigeminal nerve pain, and migraines. This technique is also highly adaptable and can be applied while the client is clothed. It is also safe for pregnancy.

Deep Tissue is a very misunderstood technique that is often poorly described as using very heavy pressure. The truth is deep tissue has nothing to do with the actual pressure applied by the therapist and everything to do with the intention of the session. The goal is to impact the deeper layers of muscle tissue and fascia. While it may seem like you would need to use intense pressure to accomplish this, the opposite is typically true. Intense pressure can often elicit a protective response in the body, causing the tissue to become rigid and resist manipulation. Therefore the pressure used is completely tailored to the client's nervous system to make sure the body feels safe and the session is productive, not simply painful.

Visceral Manipulation is a very gentle manual therapy that focuses on the mobility and harmony of the body's organs and the connective tissue that surrounds them. Using very precise pressure, the therapist assesses and releases restrictions in these tissues, allowing the organs to move and "breathe" more freely. Visceral work can be a powerful way to address back pain, diaphragm restrictions, abdominal separation, bladder dysfunction, hip pain, and digestive issues. Sarah has been trained in Visceral Manipulation through the Barral Institute.

Some other techniques include cupping, assisted stretching, breathwork, and positional release. Please don't hesitate to reach out for more information regarding any of these techniques.
